Following the release of DC Comics and Rocksteady Studios “Batman: Arkham City” video game in 2010, it seemed like it was only a matter of time before the studio planned to revisit the franchise, teasing “Batman: Arkham World” in an animated acceptance speech at the Spike TV Video Game Awards in 2011 and rumors of the studio developing a prequel game featuring the Justice League.

The rumors of the “Arkham” franchises return are, in fact true — but while the game series will get another installment October 25, it will be without Rocksteady Studios. Game Informer revealed its May cover featuring “Batman: Arkham Origins” with concept art of both Batman and Deathstroke the Terminator making his first “Arkham” series appearance, and that Warner Bros. Games Montreal has taken over the franchise from Rocksteady and has full access to the studios modified Unreal engine used to create “Batman: Arkham Asylum” and “Batman: Arkham City.” The game is headed up by creative director Eric Holmes, who served as lead designer for “Prototype” and also wrote the IDW miniseries “Transformers: Megatron Origin.”

As the name implies, “Batman: Arkham Origins” takes place before “Batman: Arkham Asylum” when eight of the worlds greatest assassins come to Gotham City on Christmas Eve to kill Batman.

The change in studio isnt the only major shift from the past two “Arkham” installments — its already been revealed that Paul Dini, who wrote the story for both “Arkham” games, didnt plan to come back for a third time. Game Informer also reports that Warner Bros. Games Montreal will simultaneously release a handheld version of the game called “Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate” for 3DS and PlayStation Vita.

This Spring, Red 5 comics will have a new addition alongside their other well known characters like Atomic Robo and Bonnie Lass. Bodie Troll is a “cute, furry, little grump” (think Disney’s Stitch with a
“non-family-friendly” rating) from Hagadorn Village where he strives to strike terror and fear into anyone crossing his path. Much to his dismay, he is anything but scary and everyone’s favorite little guy. When he’s not munching on dirty roots and sour milk, he’s running errands for a fairy godmother. From the Jay P. Fosgitt, issue #1 of Bodie Troll is set to hit shelves this April.

Bodie Troll from Red 5 Comics

Bodie will be introduced to Red 5 Comic’s largest-ever audience as he will share pages with
Atomic Robo in this May’s Free Comic Book Day issue. Retailers will want to have copies of
Bodie Troll #1 on hand for the event.

As Red 5 is an independent publisher, the best way to ensure your copy of “Bodie Troll” this
spring is to pre-order it before February 28 from your comic shop using order code
FEB131119. “Bonnie Lass #1” of the four-issue series is a spotlight item in July’s Diamond
Preview catalog and set for release on April 17, 2013 for just $2.99.

I really, really care about the people in this story… And I can pretty much guarantee you will too.” – From the introduction by Damon Lindelof (LOST, Star Trek, Prometheus)

“With The Underwater Welder, Jeff Lemire has created a moving, brilliant, and fiercely original work about loss, longing, and love. Full of piercing moments that will stay with you for long after you’ve finished reading, The Underwater Welder is a testament to the basic truth that down in the depths or up on land, there’s nothing more haunting and wondrous than the human heart. A masterpiece of visual storytelling.” – Scott Snyder (Batman, Swamp Thing, American Vampire)

WARNING: CONTENTS UNDER PRESSURE.

As an underwater welder on an oilrig off the coast of Nova Scotia, Jack Joseph is used to the immense pressures of deep-sea work. Nothing, however, could prepare him for the pressures of impending fatherhood. As Jack dives deeper and deeper, he seems to pull further and further away from his young wife and their unborn son. Then one night, deep in the icy solitude of the ocean floor, something unexplainable happens. Jack has a mysterious and supernatural encounter that will change the course of his life forever.

Equal parts blue-collar character study and mind-bending mystery, The Underwater Welder is a graphic novel about fathers and sons, birth and death, memory and reality, and the treasures we all bury deep below the surface.

A 224-page softcover with French flaps, 6.88″ x 10.44″.
