My Love for The Guild
June 18, 2012
While waiting patiently in the press lounge for a personal demo at Perfect World to see the latest and greatest for their free2play RPG “Raiderz” (review coming soon), you’ll never guess who stepped out of no where and landed right in front of my geeked out self?!? None other than Felicia Day herself!! It is safe to say that, to quote Aeisha Tyler from the Ubisoft conference, I got a little “girl wood”. If you are not amongst the cool kids and are in the dark as to who Felicia Day is, well let me tell you. She is an actress and singer extraordinaire who has been in some amazing shows such as “Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Bring It On, Dragon Age: Redemption, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, Eureka and of course The Guild. The Guild, if you don’t know already, was created and written by Felicia and hit Youtube back in 2007. I actually caught wind of this on the web and have watched the first two seasons on Netflix.
Fun side note, I worked as a game designer on a small little game that was meant to be used on the Rock Jocks website. Another movie that Felicia Day is starring in that is now in post production. I’m still waiting to see that game in action on the site!! I hope it dodges the cutting room floor!
Here’s the short end of the show:
This red-headed gamer-geek, Codex, is addicted to playing this World of Warcraft RPG that pretty much has consumed her life. Since she has no man, no job, no shrink to keep her from her obsession, she finds solace and escape as she bands together with a round of hilarious characters. You can’t truly call yourself a gamer if you do not love this show!! There is so much gamer speak that when watching this show with my cousins and her friends, I found that I was the only one laughing and able to following along. I think someone should create a Gamer Dictionary for the noobs so they can keep up and to keep me from constantly pausing this ingenious show to explain what’s going on.
Check out this link to watch the first episode: The Guild. It’s also available to buy on DVD on Amazon.com
Here’s the sad part. I wasn’t able to snap a picture of her while in the press lounge because it was awkward and I didn’t couldn’t get my camera phone working fast enough! HOWEVER, my friend Jenn ran into Felicia and Sandeep Parikh, who plays Zaboo. So please enjoy this!! Good news is I was able to snap a shot of Wil Wheaton, who plays Codex’ nemesis and sometimes boyfriend Fawkes while he was interviewing young game designers over at the Indie Cade booth.
E3 isn’t as rampant with celebrities floating around like Comic Con is but I have to say that seeing the cast of the award winning show, The Guild, totally set my geek meter on high and totally made my day!
Game On–Andrea
