Choices for this weekend June 5th

So the summer film season officially kicked off a few weeks ago with the release of X-Men Origins: Wolverine.  And since then we have been hit with the occasional blockbuster film.  This weekend proves to be no different.  With the releases of Land Of the Lost, The Hangover, and My Life in Ruins, this weekend looks to be one filled with laughter.  So the question that comes to mind is this, what movie will you go see?

My Life in Ruins is a romantic comedy film set amongst the ruins of ancient Greece, starring Nia Vardalos, Richard Dreyfuss, Alexis Georgoulis, Rachel Dratch, Harland Williams and British comedy actor and impressionist Alistair McGowan. The film is about a tour guide whose life takes a personal detour, while her group gets entangled in comic situations among the ruins, with a series of unexpected stops along the way.

This movie seems like one of those movies that we dub “Chick Flick”.  While Nia Vardalos has proven herself with her previous big hit My Big Fat Greek Wedding it remains to be seen as to if this one will have as much success.

The Hangover is a 2009 comedy film directed by Todd Phillips, who also directed Starsky & Hutch, Old School, and Road Trip, among others. The film follows four friends who travel to Las Vegas, Nevada, for a bachelor party, only to wake up the next morning not remembering a thing and missing the groom, whose wedding is to occur mere hours away. The film stars Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Justin Bartha, and Heather Graham.

Now this one has my vote, proved by the fact that as I type this I am in the theater waiting for the previews to start, for the weekend top choice.  I have found the trailers to be funnier than some other whole films that I have seen and am anxious to for it to start!!!  I mean if for anything else than to see Mike Tyson singing In The Air Tonight.

Land of the Lost is an American comedy film based on the 1974 TV series of the same name. The film is directed by Brad Silberling and stars Will Ferrell. Production of the film began in March 2008. It was originally scheduled to be released on July 17, 2009 but the release date was pushed forward to June 5, 2009. The film follows “a disgraced paleontologist, his assistant, and a macho tour guide who find themselves in a strange, alternate world inhabited by dinosaurs, monkey people and reptilian Sleestaks.”

While being a small fan of the original TV Show, this reincarnation has yet to garner my desire to sit through another Will Farrell film.  I mean sure it looks like it could be a decent situational comedy, but the thought of sitting through another 2 hours of Will making an ass out of himself just doesn’t do it for me anymore.  He is slowly turning into another Jim Carrey and if he is not careful will find himself in the same slump.  Though if it lands him a marriage to Jenny McCarthy then I guess it can’t all be bad.

So there you have it, your choices for the weekend.  Please feel free to let us know what you plan on seeing and how the movie was.

As for me, I’ll be sitting in this theater, nursing this Hangover.
