Fallout Skyrim

It’s been awhile since I have been on here.  Life has been, shall we say, busy.

Running a company like FP is more than a fulltime job.  It’s an obsession.

7 years ago I realized that while I loved comics, they were getting old.  I was constantly disappointed by regurgitating stories and characters.  I still loved being able to read my favorite titles but thought, how much could these people take and what is it that makes 50 years of a character fighting the same fight over and over again so interesting.  Then I realized, nothing.  It was stale.

It wasn’t until I picked up the book Powers that my mind was reawakened.  Powers was such a breath of fresh air that it made me see that there were other stories out there.  I began to grab more and more indy books and found my love for comics beginning to take hold again.  I thought to myself, why can’t I do this.  I am a decent writer with fairly new ideas, why not just start my own company.  So I did.

An act like this is absolutely appalling.  This individual had somehow in his mind decided that shooting a child point blank in the face was something that needed to be done.

I have no words to describe the emotion I am feeling right now.  As a father that has lost a child I can tell you that this is something that the parents will never recover from.  This is something that the community will never recover from.  All these kids wanted to do is something that I myself do every Thursday, and that’s see the first showing of a movie.

Pretty much everyone that knows me knows my views on politics. But for those that don’t, I hate politics, I hate politicians, and I hate any sort of discussion about it. I view politics like I view religion, it’s just another way/reason for people to hate each other. No one is ever right and no one is ever wrong yet somehow they believe that they are right and that any that doesn’t agree with them is wrong. It’s a battle of popularity vs. morality. “Oh you believe in that why? Oh because your party/religion does, great. Do you ever have an idea that your party/religion doesn’t agree with? No, of course not cuz that would spur independent thought!” It’s a moral gray area that endorses a belief system to inspire comfortability and an ability to sleep at night without a dread feeling of guilt.

Here you are folks, 10 minutes of me rambling about what FP has been up to.  Please, ignore all the boring parts.

Wow.  What can I say about this book.  Well let’s get the generalities out of the way first shall we.

From Wiki

DMZ is an American comic book series written by Brian Wood, with artwork by Wood and Riccardo Burchielli (the Italian artist’s first comic book in the United States). The series is set in the near future, where a second civil war has turned the island of Manhattan into a demilitarized zone, caught between forces of the United States of America and secessionist “Free States”. DMZ is published by DC Comics under their Vertigo imprint.[1] The first trade paperback, entitled On the Ground,[2] reprints the first five issues of the series; so far ten trade paperbacks have been released.

Tonight, I had the opportunity to go see the new Dark Knight Prologue.  What this is, is an opportunity to see a 6 min clip from the film that hasn’t been aired yet.  The invites went online a week ago and fans flooded the sites in order to sign up for this exclusive look.

First, the event.  The guys from FanBoy HQ and I arrived at the theater at 8.  The lines were already wrapped around the main hall.  We ended up waiting til about 10:15 before we were sat in the Imax theater to see the footage.

The prologue opens with Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman) at what appears to be a eulogy for Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart).  The scene fades away and to Scotland where we are greeted by a vehicle pulling up to an airfield to be met by a team of people trying to retrieve Dr. Leonid Pavel.  They are shown 3 captives that are bound and hooded and at the mention of the name Bane are then escorted aboard the plane.

I won’t go to deep in the spoilers of the prologue but I will say this, once the plane takes off you are subject to one of the most amazing stunts I have seen in a long time.

The trailer to me gives me a light of hope.  The pacing, action, and even music used is pretty much the same as it was in Dark Knight.  My only complaint, and it’s not really mine but one that I can see flooding the internet with lightning speed, would be that it is hard to understand Bane due to the constrictions of his mask.  What I could hear was some intelligent vernacular and a sharp accent which adds to the intelligence and influence that the character will exude in the film.   The trailer ends with a flood of images showing the different characters from the film and comic as well as a quick glimpse of the Batwing.  It ends with what has to be a shot of Bane in the Batcave tossing aside the broken mask of Batman.

To say I am excited would be an understatement.  Many people walked out of the theater upset at the lack of comprehension coming from behind the mask of Bane.  Not me.  I have faith in the fact that Nolan will undoubtedly dub the voice so that it could be heard clearer before the final product comes out.

I am pretty sure there will be cam versions of the trailer all over the internet by the time I post this or you read it.  Do yourself a favor. Remember how you felt when you first heard that Heath Ledger would be portraying the Joker and remind yourself how you felt when you saw the final product.  Have faith in Nolan.  He won’t disappoint.

Say what you will about the series but for me it’s been a favorite.  I liked the ultimate line because it gave characters a modern reboot.  Yeah they messed it up at times but Spider-Man never wavered and for that reason it remained my favorite.  I’m not here to preach a review at you, I just wanted to share this image below.  It’s the last 2 pages of Ultimate Spider-man #160 just so you can see why I will miss this series.

Tomorrow, August 1st, will be a very busy day for Forbidden Panel.  It will be the first day in for the Z.K.S. Pinup contest part 2 voting.  People will be able to visit various sites and vote on their favorite submission.

For those of you who live under a rock, don’t watch the news, weren’t on Facebook or Twitter, or were stuck visiting with family, this past week was the San Diego Comic Con International.  With over 150,000 people in attendance, this years Con seemed more epic than previous years.

Comic Con is has changed from a strictly comic book orientated show to a media pop culture madhouse.  It is home to various movie studios and video game companies as well as comic book publishers.  This annual event is used as an opportunity for those various companies to “reward” it’s fans but staging a presence there that can’t be seen anywhere else.  It is also used as an opportunity to announce new titles, provide never before seen footage and previews, as well as giving fans a chance to meet and hang out with their favorite stars and writers and artists.  It is a force to be reckoned with.

Forbidden Panel was there with nearly a full staff.  We all walked the floor with cameras and voice recorders in hand in order to meet and talk to some of our favorite and normally inaccessible “celebrities”.

Stay tuned to the website in upcoming weeks as we all begin posting some of the great things that we were able to interact with.

A big thanks goes out to Geekscape, who invited Justin and myself to there booth and allowed us to sign copies of ZKS as well as debut our newest comic, El Super Maximo.  Thank you to all of our fans that showed up and allowed our experience to be a memorable one.  I have included pics from the signing, but as I said previously, keep watch on this site for more news and pics from all of the other staff.

Once again thanks to everyone out there and we hope to see some of you at the Inland Empire Comic Expo in September.
