Veteran comic book artist Steve Dillon, celebrated for his work on \u201cPreacher,\u201d \u201cThe Punisher\u201d and \u201cHellblazer,\u201d has passed away. No details are yet available.\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The news, which circulated this morning on social media, was confirmed minutes ago by his younger brother, cartoonist Glyn Dillon.<\/p>\n

Born in 1962 in Luton, Bedfordshire, England, Dillon made his professional debut at age 16 in the Marvel UK anthology \u201cHulk Weekly,\u201d and went on to draw the Nick Fury strip. He later worked on \u201cDoctor Who Magazine,\u201d where he created the character Abslom Daak, and the \u201cWarrior\u201d anthology, and contributed regularly throughout the 1980s to 2000AD, illustrating such strips as \u201cJudge Dredd,\u201d \u201cRogue Trooper\u201d and \u201cBad Company.\u201d With the late artist Brett Ewins, Dillon also launched the magazine \u201cDeadline.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dillon first attracted attention in the United States with the 1989 DC Comics miniseries \u201cSkreemer,\u201d with Peter Milligan and Ewins, before moving on to a nearly two-year run on \u201cAnimal Man.\u201d\"steve-dillon\"<\/p>\n

However, Dillon is best known for his collaborations with writer Garth Ennis, beginning with Vertigo\u2019s \u201cHellblazer\u201d and continuing with the critically acclaimed \u201cPreacher\u201d and Marvel\u2019s \u201cThe Punisher.\u201d Dillon\u2019s other credits include Marvel\u2019s \u201cWolverine: Origins,\u201d \u201cBullseye: Greatest Hits,\u201d \u201cPunisherMAX\u201d and \u201cThunderbolts.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tributes to Dillon have filled Twitter<\/a> this morning, with Warren Ellis<\/a> calling him \u201ca giant,\u201dAntony Johnston<\/a> referring to him as \u201cone of the best pure storytellers in the business,\u201d and Ed Brubaker<\/a> characterizing his death as \u201ca tragic loss, not just to comics, but especially to comics.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
