Netflix has announced that they have acquired comic book publisher Millarworld, the company founded by \u201cKingsman,\u201d \u201cWanted\u201d and \u201cKick Ass\u201d creator Mark Millar.<\/p>\n

With the acquisition, the first ever for the streaming giant, Netflix and Millar plan to adapt the company\u2019s portfolio of critically and fan-acclaimed character franchises into films, series and kids\u2019 shows available exclusively to Netflix members globally.<\/p>\n

Potential titles include a bunch of Millar\u2019s most notable original work including \u201cJupiter\u2019s Legacy\/Circle,\u201d \u201cEmpress,\u201d \u201cChrononauts,\u201d \u201cStarlight,\u201d \u201cSuperior,\u201d \u201cNemesis\u201d \u2013 so long as there\u2019s no complications of rights with other studios.<\/p>\n

Millarworld will also continue to create and publish new stories and character franchises under the Netflix label. Terms of the transaction weren\u2019t disclosed.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Netflix CCO Ted Sarandos says: \u201cAs creator and re-inventor of some of the most memorable stories and characters in recent history, ranging from Marvel\u2019s The Avengers to Millarworld\u2019s Kick-Ass, Kingsman, Wanted and Reborn franchises, Mark is as close as you can get to a modern day Stan Lee. We can\u2019t wait to harness the creative power of Millarworld to Netflix and start a new era in global storytelling.<\/p>\n

\u201dMillar, whose time at Marvel led to the storylines that inspired the films \u201cCaptain America: Civil War\u201d and \u201cLogan,\u201d adds: \u201cThis is only the third time in history a major comic book company has been purchased at this level. I\u2019m so in love with what Netflix is doing and excited by their plans. Netflix is the future and Millarworld couldn\u2019t have a better home.\u201d<\/p>\n
