Following the success of breakout comedy\u00a0Happy!<\/em>,\u00a0Universal Cable Prods<\/a>. is adapting another\u00a0Image Comics<\/a>\u00a0property into a TV series. UCP is developing Image Comics\u2019 comic book series\u00a0Ice Cream Man<\/a>,<\/em>\u00a0which debuted in January.<\/p>\n

Max and Adam Reid (Sneaky Pete<\/em>) will write the adaptation. The duo will serve as executive producers alongside Chris Bender, Jake Weiner and Jake Wagner of Good Fear Films.\u00a0The project will be shopped to premium cable and streaming services.<\/p>\n

Based on the namesake\u00a0Image Comics series<\/a>\u00a0created by W. Maxwell Prince,\u00a0Ice Cream Man<\/em>\u00a0is a horror-fantasy anthology series presented by its omnipresent narrator, the Ice Cream Man. Weaving a dark tapestry of tales from his truck, the Ice Cream Man peels back the layers of the suburban American psyche with stories that always end with a macabre twist.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Ice Cream Man<\/em>\u00a0frames the stories for viewers with darkly wry observations about human nature and the cruel ironies of fate. That narrator structure and the twist-ending tone put\u00a0Ice Cream Man<\/em>\u00a0in the tradition of classic television franchises such as\u00a0The Twilight Zone<\/em>,Night Gallery<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Tales From the Crypt<\/em>, the latter also an import from the comics world.<\/p>\n

UCP also produces Syfy\u2019s hit\u00a0Happy!,<\/em>\u00a0based on Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson\u2019s graphic novel from Image. The studio\u2019s comic-based series portfolio also includes the upcoming\u00a0Umbrella Academy<\/em>\u00a0for Netflix.<\/p>\n

Good Fear partners Bender and Weiner\u2019s next film out is David Robert Mitchell\u2019s\u00a0Under the Silver Lake<\/em>\u00a0starring Andrew Garfield, Riley Keough and Topher Grace. They are currently in production on Disney\u2019s live-action\u00a0Mulan<\/em>\u00a0with Niki Caro directing and Yifei Liu, Jet Li, Gong Li and Donnie Yen starring; and STX\u2019s\u00a0My Spy<\/em>\u00a0directed by Pete Segal with Dave Bautista starring. Other projects in development include\u00a0Milk<\/em>\u00a0at New Line,\u00a0Red Queen<\/em>\u00a0at Universal,\u00a0Man Alive<\/em>\u00a0at 20th Century Fox, and\u00a0Sweet Tooth<\/em>\u00a0at New Line.<\/p>\n
