Today we wanted to ramp things up just a smidge but with a story that didn\u2019t take itself too seriously. Clearly, the only choice was So I Married An Axe Murderer!<\/p>\n\n\n

Released in 1993, this movie directed by Thomas Schlamme, was written \u201cofficially\u201d by Robbie Fox but rewritten by Mike Myers and Neil Mullarkey. It starred some of the most popular stars of their time; Mike Myers, Nancy Ravis, Anthony LaPaglia and Amanda Plummer, Charles Gordon, his Hartman, Debi Mazar, Steven Wright, Alan Akin and so many others!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s the story of a poet with cold feet always finding reasons to leave his relationships. He meets a sweet girl with some family issues and they do their best to find love, all while there\u2019s a killer \u201cMrs. X\u201d allegedly on the loose! Is he in danger? Or is he paranoid?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This film is full of inappropriate jokes and sexual references, but there are no \u201cnaked\u201d scenes and love-making is implied, but never shown. There is no gore or blood, but there are some violent scenes and a few tense moments. As a whole, it\u2019s an adorable movie with a sweet story full of laughs and silliness, PG-13 humor and a little attempted murder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Watching this again after so many years caused me to realize just how much this one film impacted an entire subculture. Some of the best one-liners and quotes that still get repeated to this today are found in this movie! It\u2019s such a trip to watch a movie you haven\u2019t seen in 20 years only to realize how deeply ingrained its influence was. Not many movies can boast such a legacy to stand among such quotable giants as Young Frankenstein, Princess Bride, Monty Python and the Holy Grail and The Breakfast Club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What did the kids think?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lion\u2019s reaction was – \u201cthis was the best movie we\u2019ve watched so far, thank you so much for showing it to us!\u201d They loved how funny it was, the Scottish references, the comedy, the actual story underneath the comedy and they loved the poetry scenes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dragon had to step out a few times during uncomfortable moments like the break up and the moments between the wedding and \u201cthe reveal\u201d. They knew something terrible was going to happen but didn\u2019t know what and the anticipation was extremely hard to sit through. They watched from the other room while playing a game and came back in once the reveal happened and stayed through the end. Ultimately, they loved it, said it was great and funny and overall fun to watch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their favorite lines were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s like an orange on a toothpick!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShe stole my heart and my cat\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDad how can you hate the Colonel?\u201d \u201cBecause he puts an additive chemical in his chicken that makes ya crave it fortnightly, smartarse!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They laughed all the way to bed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tomorrow is a milestone. It\u2019s Friday, October 13th and the movie to match has been requested.\u00a0
It\u2019ll be their first \u201creal\u201d horror movie and I\u2019m both excited and anxious to share it with them\u2026 so, tune in tomorrow night to see how it goes as The Mothership ventures into the still waters of Camp Crystal Lake!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
