Dave Bautista is set to team up with Samuel L. Jackson for the upcoming action-adventure film \u201cAfterburn\u201d for Black Bear, Endurance Media, Dogbone Entertainment and Original Films, the companies announced Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfterburn\u201d will be directed by veteran stunt coordinator and rising director J.J. Perry, who recently wrapped the Bautista thriller \u201cThe Killer\u2019s Game\u201d for Lionsgate.<\/p>\n

The screenplay is based on the graphic novel \u201cAfterburn,\u201d set ten years after a massive solar flare destroyed technology across the globe.<\/p>\n

Bautista stars as Jake, a treasure hunter who gets hired to recover the Mona Lisa before a dangerous warlord can steal it for himself. Jackson has been cast in an unspecified role. Filming is slated to begin this April in Europe.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Perry is best known for his stunt and second unit directing work on blockbuster franchises like \u201cJohn Wick\u201d and \u201cFast and Furious.\u201d This will be his second feature film after last year\u2019s hit \u201cDay Shift\u201d for Netflix.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Veteran producers Neal H. Moritz of the \u201cFast and Furious\u201d series and Toby Jaffe (\u201cTotal Recall\u201d) of Original Film are backing the project alongside Steve Richards (\u201cSherlock Holmes\u201d) of Endurance Media. Bautista will also produce through his company Dogbone Entertainment.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Afterburn\u2019 is a terrific action story, combining the fun of Indiana Jones with the near future world building of \u2018Children of Men,\u2019\u201d Jaffe said in a statement. \u201cJ.J. is going to bring this to life in a thrilling way, using real practical stunt work to create authentic, visceral set pieces. Dave is one of the leading action stars in the world today, as well as being an actor with real soul and versatility. So excited to be making \u2018Afterburn\u2019 with them both.\u201d<\/p>\n
