For this week Shots from the Studio I’d like to spotlight another great artist and his art book. This time it’s David Petersen and his gorgeous tome, The art of Mouse Guard 2005-2015<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0\u00a0 This huge\u00a0 book is 366 pages, measures 12″x12″ and it features hundreds of color and black & white illustrations. Also included are pictures of the models for the structures that exist in the Mouse Guard world that he builds himself, rough drafts of finished artwork and the origins of the Mouse Guard story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0\u00a0 As you can see the art is\u00a0 stunning with rich details from the armor and weapons, to the life like buildings to the vast and varied characters and creatures that inhabit this world. And his rendering of the environments is breathtaking. From the forest trails where our intrepid heroes patrol, to a deadly beachfront battle with a hungry crustacean to the earthy underground kingdom of the sly weasels. The environment is a character unto itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0\u00a0 For those who have not yet had the pleasure of reading this award winning comic it is the story of a\u00a0 group of mice assigned to protect the paths of the forest and the mice that travel them from the ever present predators such as foxes, snakes, owls, and the growing threat of the weasel army. It is full of exciting action and gripping intrigue as some of the guard members begin to suspect there may be a traitor among them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0\u00a0 As beautiful and lavish as the art is the story is just as well done. It has great characters with truly incredible story arcs, in depth lore of their world and lots of edge of your seat adventure. Check out the first collection Fall 1152<\/a>.\u00a0 I promise you won’t regret it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
