A year after the network closed the book on Clark Kent’s 10-season run on Smallville, the network is near a pilot order for Arrow, the story of Green Arrow made famous in the long-running DC Comics series.<\/p>\n

Longtime writing partners Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim — the duo behind the big-screen DC Comics adaptation of Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds — are attached to executive produce and pen the project alongside Fringe co-EP Andrew Kreisberg, with whom they worked on Eli Stone. Kreisberg, in addition to working on The Vampire Diaries, has geek cred, having penned several issues of DC’s Green Arrow and Black Canary.<\/p>\n

Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions will produce the project, in association with Warner Bros. Television.<\/p>\n

The project, should it go to pilot and ultimately receive a series order, would mark the character’s second life on the CW. Justin Hartley played the character, a wealthy playboy by day who — like Batman — secretly was saving the city with his enhanced arrows by night, for a number of seasons on Smallville. Hartley, however, is not attached to Arrow.<\/p>\n

For Berlanti, the project is the latest in a busy development season. In addition to Arrow, he’s developing a drama based on another DC Comics franchise, Booster Gold, with a script sale to Syfy in November. Kreisberg is also on board to pen Booster. Like Green Arrow, Booster Gold also was featured on Smallville, appearing in the 10th and final season of the CW series.<\/p>\n

Berlanti and Guggenheim have already had one of their numerous script sales go to pilot this season. Fox gave pilot orders to drama Guilty earlier this week.<\/p>\n
