Despite the film still being written and a long way off from production, Michael Bay is still talking up the fourth “Transformers” project and how the plan is for the franchise to be “moving on to something different”.<\/p>\n

Speaking with The Los Angeles Times, Bay refuses to call the film a reboot – \u201cI don\u2019t want to say reboot because then people will think we\u2019re doing a Spider-Man and starting from the beginning. We\u2019re not. We\u2019re taking the story that you\u2019ve seen \u2014 the story we\u2019ve told in three movies already \u2014 and we\u2019re taking it in a new direction. But we\u2019re leaving those three as the history. It all still counts.”<\/p>\n

Where does it stand right now? “I met with the writer before I went off to do ‘Pain and Gain’ and we talked about a bunch of ideas. We let that simmer for a bit. He\u2019s been thinking about stuff and now we\u2019re getting back together next week to see what we\u2019ve got and to see if it gels.\u201d<\/p>\n

One of those would be the Autobots heading out into space – \u201cThat feels like the way to go, doesn\u2019t it? I want to go a little off but I don\u2019t want to go too sci-fi. I still want to keep it grounded. That\u2019s what works in these movies, that\u2019s what makes it accessible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bay also confirmed that the budget on this entry will be tighter than the previous one, ‘Dark of the Moon’, by a good $30 million.<\/p>\n
