“Lost” alum Michael Emerson will voice the Joker in the second part of “Batman: The Dark Knight Returns,” Warner Bros. upcoming direct-to-DVD animated adaptation of the influential 1986 miniseries by Frank Miller and Klaus Janson.\"\"<\/p>\n

“Hes one of those great villains that an actor like me likes to play because he has layers \u2014 he has a face for the world and a face for himself,” the Emmy-winning star of CBSs “Person of Interest” told TV Guide. “He is, in a way, a villain who is a natural actor. All of that is that is delightful and confounding at the same time.”<\/p>\n

Released under the DC Universe Animated Original Movie banner, the two-part movie is set a decade after an aging Bruce Wayne quit crimefighting in the wake of Jason Todd\u2019s death, “The Dark Knight Returns” brings Batman out of retirement to save Gotham from sinking deeper into decay and lawlessness. With the help of a new, female Robin, Carrie Kelly, the Dark Knight ends the threat of the mutant gangs that have overrun the city and confronts two of his greatest enemies. But then he must face his former ally Superman in a battle that only one will survive.<\/p>\n

Emerson joins a voice cast that includes Peter Weller as Batman, Ariel Winter as Robin, David Selby as Jim Gordon, Mark Valley as Superman, Wade Williams as Harvey Dent and Michael McKean as Dr. Wolper.<\/p>\n

Directed by Jay Oliva and executive produced by Bruce Timm, Part 1 is available Sept. 25 on DVD, Blu-ray, digital download and on demand. Part 2 will debut in early 2013.<\/p>\n
