A spokesman for Steven Spielberg has confirmed that Robocopocalypse, the sci-fi epic we were expecting him to tackle next, has been slipped into the cooler.<\/p>\n

Cabin in the Woods\u2018 Drew Goddard was scripting from the novel by Daniel H. Wilson, and apparently hadn\u2019t quote gotten it right yet. The official statement, at The Hollywood Reporter, said that the film was:<\/p>\n

too important and the script is not ready, and it\u2019s too expensive to produce. It\u2019s back to the drawing board to see what is possible.<\/p>\n

The actors, including Anne Hathaway, Chris Hemsworth and Ben Whishaw, are likely to move on to other projects now and should the film get rolling again, it may well be other folks in those roles.<\/p>\n

Spielberg has had several long-postponed pictures eventually come to fruition \u2013 Lincoln, for example \u2013 but, like anybody else, others that fell by the wayside. Just today, in fact, we learned that Christopher Nolan was taking over on one old Spielberg possible, the alternative dimension picture, Interstellar.<\/p>\n

Perhaps the bigger concern is in Spielberg\u2019s growing lack of interest in making films with lots of action. He could do them in his sleep, he\u2019s said.<\/p>\n
