“Man of Steel” scribe David Goyer says the long-gestating film adaptation of the acclaimed “Y: The Last Man” comic book series could begin shooting next year.<\/p>\n

The comic follows young amateur escape artist Yorick Brown and his pet monkey Ampersand, the last two men on Earth. Something simultaneously kills every mammal on Earth possessing a Y chromosome – including embryos, fertilized eggs, and even sperm.<\/p>\n

Society is plunged into chaos as infrastructures collapse and the surviving women everywhere try to cope with the loss of the men. Yorick goes on a mission to find his girlfriend Beth, who was on vacation in Australia.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year filmmaker Dan Trachtenberg, who helmed the fan film short “Portal: No Escape,” was brought onboard to direct the project from a new script draft by Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia. Goyer, who is producing the project, tells Crave Online:<\/p>\n

“We\u2019ve got a script that\u2019s as close as it\u2019s ever been, so knock on wood. That could go into production next year\u2026 The first movie is meant to function as a standalone, but hopefully continue. Hopefully there will be others.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The comic itself was a self-contained arc story than ran for sixty issues. Thats too much for a single film, but certainly enough for a trilogy or series of films.<\/p>\n
