WGN America has begun development of a series adaptation of “Scalped” from DC Entertainment’s Vertigo imprint.<\/p>\n

Jason Aaron’s 60 issue-long series, which premiered in 2007, is described as a crime noir set on a Native American reservation in South Dakota. Doug Jung “Banshee” will pen the script and executive produce.<\/p>\n

The series focused on the Oglala Lakota inhabitants who grapple with organized crime, poverty, drug and alcohol addiction and local politics while trying to preserve their cultural identity.<\/p>\n

“Scalped” joins a quickly growing development slate at WGN America which debuts “Salem,” its first scripted drama, this coming Sunday. It’s also developing the Justin Lin-produced “Radiant Doors” series, the period drama series “Shadow Land,” the atomic bomb creation-themed “Manhattan” and a “Ten Commandments” mini-series.<\/p>\n
