{"id":13212,"date":"2016-07-24T10:44:45","date_gmt":"2016-07-24T17:44:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/forbiddenpanel.com\/PanelCast\/?p=13212"},"modified":"2016-07-24T10:44:45","modified_gmt":"2016-07-24T17:44:45","slug":"chris-and-paul-weitz-team-with-grant-morrison-for-sinatoro-tv-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forbiddenpanel.com\/PanelCast\/chris-and-paul-weitz-team-with-grant-morrison-for-sinatoro-tv-series\/","title":{"rendered":"Chris and Paul Weitz Team With Grant Morrison for &#8216;Sinatoro&#8217; TV Series\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/heat-vision\/chris-paul-weitz-team-grant-913912\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forbiddenpanel.com\/PanelCast\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/sinatoro_poster.jpg?resize=274%2C412\" alt=\"\" width=\"274\" height=\"412\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<aside class=\"blog-post-deck\">\n<div class=\"blog-post-summary\">Morrison initially wrote the project as a screenplay for a movie.<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<article class=\"blog-post-body js-fitvids-content\">Filmmakers Chris and Paul Weitz and Universal Television are teaming up with Grant Morrison to adapt the latter&#8217;s upcoming title, <em>Sinatoro<\/em>.Adam Armus and Kay Foster, co-creators of the NBC drama <em>American Odyssey<\/em>, are writing the TV script with Morrison, one of the preeminent comics writers who has penned defining works on <em>Batman<\/em>, <em>Superman<\/em>, <em>X-Men\u00a0<\/em>and <em>Animal Man<\/em>, among others.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><em>Sinatoro<\/em>, based on the forthcoming Black Mask Studios comic by Morrison and artist Vanesa R. Del Rey, tells of a necronaut who is sent into the afterlife to save Earth from destruction. The story, a modern take on the\u00a0<em>Tibetan Book of the Dead<\/em>, has influences from the Western genre, and classic U.S. Route 66 also figures into it.<\/p>\n<p>The deal with Universal Television marks a closing of a circle of sorts as it returns the property to its screen roots: Morrison initially wrote <em>Sinatoro <\/em>as a screenplay for a movie.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embedded-content read-more is-embed-processed\" data-nid=\"912940\" data-nodetype=\"blog\" data-template=\"readmore\">The Weitzes are executive producing with their Depth of Field partner Andrew Miano along with Black Mask Studios&#8217; Matt Pizzolo and Brett Gurewitz. Armus, Foster, Morrison, Kristan Morrison and Adam Egypt Mortimer will also exec produce.<\/div>\n<p>The team intends to partner with a director and then take to buyers with the studio.<\/p>\n<p><span data-scayt_word=\"\u201cSinatoro\" data-scaytid=\"19\">\u201c<em>Sinatoro<\/em><\/span> turns American pop culture into a whole new mythology,\u201d said Morrison. \u201cIt&#8217;s about life, death, sex, romance and everything in between. It&#8217;s one of my favorite stories I&#8217;ve done! So excited to see it finding a new life as a television series where there&#8217;s time to expand the ideas and characters.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Morrison has been developing the story for over a decade with the idea that different media representations (comics, TV, film, etc.) of the story&#8217;s world flow into one another, like seeing the same story through different surfaces of a prism.<\/p>\n<p>Said Pizzolo, &#8220;The question was always how to build a canvas big enough to faithfully encompass the brilliant world Grant had envisioned. This has become a shared obsession over years with more and more creative collaborators falling in love with Grant&#8217;s vision and diving in to help build it.
