Stephen Hopkins is attached to direct and executive produce the project, which hails from Circle of Confusion, the company behind AMC\u2019s hit series adaptation of Robert Kirkman\u2019s\u00a0<em>The Walking Dead.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Terri Hughes Burton and Ron Milbauer (<em>Eureka<\/em>) wrote the\u00a0<em>Chew<\/em> script, which will now be tweaked under Showtime&#8217;s guidance.\u00a0<em>Chew<\/em> tells the darkly comic story of federal agent Tony Chu, a \u201ccibopath\u201d able to get psychic impression from the things he eats who is assigned to the most usual and bizarre crimes. \u201cThere are a lot of superhero comic books, but there are not many food comic books,&#8221; Layman\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.deadline.com\/2010\/07\/circle-of-confusion-stephen-hopkins-to-develop-tv-series-based-on-comic-chew\/\">told<\/a>me back in July when the TV project was still in the nascent stages. Along with Hopkins, David Engel and Circle of Confusion are also executive producing\u00a0<em>Chew<\/em>, with Hopkins&#8217; executive Kate Garwood expected to produce in some capacity. Hopkins has a longstanding relationship with Showtime: He directed the pilot for the network&#8217;s dark comedy series\u00a0<em>Californication<\/em> and recently helmed an episode of freshman drama\u00a0<em>Shameless<\/em> as well as one of Showtime&#8217;s recently ordered pilots, the Don Cheadle starrer\u00a0<em>House of Lies<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to\u00a0<em>The Walking Dead<\/em>, which has been renewed for a second season, Circle of Confusion is executive producing\u00a0<em>Powers<\/em>, a drama project based on the comic by Brian Michael Bendis and Mike Oeming that was recently\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.deadline.com\/2011\/02\/fx-orders-comic-adaptation-powers-to-pilot\/\">picked up<\/a> to pilot by FX. Charles H.
