Ryan Gosling<\/a>, Ken Kao, and Anonymous Content have come on board to produce a movie adaptation of Jeff Lemire\u2019s graphic novel \u201cThe Underwater Welder<\/a>.\u201d\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The New York Times bestseller details a man in the dangerous profession of underwater welding, who has a supernatural encounter at the bottom of the sea. Lemire, Chris Staros (Editor\u2013in\u2013Chief at the Top Shelf imprint) and Ted Adams (CEO at IDW Publishing) are attached as executive producers.<\/p>\n

No actors, screenwriters, or director is attached to \u201cThe Underwater Welder\u201d at this point. Gosling was nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for \u201cLa Land Land\u201d and worked with Kao and his Waypoint Entertaiment in \u201cThe Nice Guys\u201d and on Terrence Malick\u2019s \u201cSong to Song,\u201d which opens SXSW on March 10 and also stars Michael Fassbender, Natalie Portman, Cate Blanchett, and Rooney Mara.<\/p>\n

Waypoint\u2019s slate includes\u00a0 \u201cHostiles,\u201d starring Christian Bale and Rosamund Pike, and Martin Zandvliet\u2019s \u201cThe Outsider,\u201d\u00a0 starring Jared Leto.<\/p>\n

Anonymous Content produced last year\u2019s Best Picture Academy Award winner \u201cSpotlight\u201d along with \u201cThe Revenant.\u201d<\/p>\n

The deal was brokered on Jeff Lemire\u2019s behalf by Angela Cheng Caplan of the Cheng Caplan Company and Allison Binder of Stone, Genow, Smelkinson, Binder & Christopher LLP and on Top Shelf\/IDW\u2019s behalf by Tuvyah Aronoff of Schwell Wimpfheimer & Associates.<\/p>\n
