Production designer Martin Whist has reportedly boarded the long in the works live-action film adaptation of the classic manga series \u201cAkira\u201d at Warner Bros. Pictures reports Omega Underground.<\/p>\n

At last report filmmaker Taika Waititi (\u201cThor: Ragnarok,\u201d \u201cHunt for the Wilderpeople\u201d) was in talks with Warners to direct, but he has yet to either formally commit or pass on the project. He has indicated a desire to follow the original comics closer rather than the iconic 1988 anime film which only adapted a part of the story.<\/p>\n

Waititi has also said that if he directs, he won\u2019t whitewash the leads as was done with last year\u2019s controversial \u201cGhost in the Shell\u201d live-action film. Jordan Peele (\u201cGet Out\u201d), Justin Lin (\u201cStar Trek Beyond\u201d) and Daniel Espinosa (\u201cLife\u201d) have all been previously linked as potential directors of the film.<\/p>\n

Whist\u2019s last six films as a production designer have been filmed at one of the big studios in Canada which offers a good indicator \u201cAkira\u201d could film there too. Whist\u2019s work includes \u201cSuper 8,\u201d \u201cCloverfield,\u201d \u201cWarm Bodies,\u201d the \u201cRoboCop\u201d remake, and most recently Shane Black\u2019s \u201cThe Predator\u201d.<\/p>\n
