Melisa Wallack<\/strong>, who wrote the script that became Relativity\u2019s high-profile Snow White project, has been drafted by Universal to pen\u00a0Emily the Strange<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Chloe Moretz<\/strong>\u00a0is attached to star as the punky goth cult figure created by skateboarder\u00a0Rob Reger<\/strong>. Dark Horse’s\u00a0Mike Richardson<\/strong>\u00a0is producing.<\/p>\n

Dark Horse Entertainment has been developing the character as a movie project since 2008, setting it up at Universal in 2010.<\/p>\n

The story line is being kept under wraps, although the aim is to tell the origin of the punk and gothic figure and how she comes to gain her abilities that fuse technology and imagination. The story will also focus on her relationship with four cats: troublemaker Sabbath, schemer Nee-Chee, imaginative Miles and leader Mystery.<\/p>\n

Reger is executive producing alongside Dark Horse’s\u00a0Keith Goldberg<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

There is a certain amount of irony in Wallack\u2019s hiring since Universal has been engaged in a cat-and-mouse game of one-upmanship with Relativity over competing Snow White movies. Universal is about to start shooting\u00a0Snow White and the Huntsman<\/em>\u00a0while Relativity is in production on its untitled movie starring\u00a0Lilly Collins<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Julia Roberts<\/strong>. Wallack wrote the spec script that has become Relativity\u2019s tentpole to be released March 16, 2012.<\/p>\n

Wallack, repped by ICM attorney Howard Abramson, wrote and co-directed\u00a0Meet Bill<\/em>, a 2007 indie starring\u00a0Aaron Eckhart\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Jessica Alba<\/strong>, as well as\u00a0Science Fair<\/em>, which is set up at End Game Entertainment. Both scripts were on the Black List.<\/p>\n
