“Superman: Legacy” To Introduce The Authority

James Gunn’s upcoming “Superman: Legacy” film serves as the kick-off feature for a new, larger, interconnected DC Universe (DCU) and it appears Gunn isn’t wasting any time in making those connections.

According to Heat Vision, characters from “The Authority” will debut alongside the Man of Steel in the new film. The superhero comic series, created by Warren Ellis, follows a team of morally gray superheroes who get the job done by any means necessary.

A film based on “The Authority” was announced alongside ‘Legacy’ as part of the slate of five films that make up the ‘Chapter One: Gods and Monsters’ phase of the new DCU. The other three are James Mangold’s “Swamp Thing,” Batman-led “The Brave and the Bold” likely to be helmed by Andy Muschietti, and the “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” film.

Previously Gunn said “The Authority” film was a passion project of his, he and other DC Studios writers had already worked on an outline of the story and that this “big movie” would have connections to Superman.

This would also fit in with comments Gunn said back in January, explaining how they would use top-tier characters like Batman, Superman, etc. to help introduce characters people are less familiar with.

According to the report, the members of the superhero group will be cast after the creative team cast their Superman and Lois Lane. The same goes for other supporting Superman characters like Lex Luthor and Jimmy Olsen.
