FX not ready to abandon Powers

FX hasnt pulled the plug on the Sony TV-produced “Powers.

“The cablers adaptation of the comic book series has been a long and arduous process, but the network said it isnt writing the project off.

A pilot was shot last year but rejected by FX topper John Landgraf, who asked scribe Charles “Chick” Eglee for a rewrite. The network had plans to do a reshoot of the pilot — with a completely new cast — but those plans have not gone forward and there is no immediate start date to put it back in front of the camera.

Jason Patric and Lucy Punch, who co-stars in the new Fox sitcom “Ben and Kate,” were in the original cast. Others in the ensemble were Charles S. Dutton, Titus Welliver and Carly Foulkes.

The comic, from writers Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, centers on a pair of cops who investigate crimes perpetrated by those with superhuman qualities.

At the previous Television Critics Assn. tour in January, Landgraf referred to “Powers” as “difficult an adaptation as Ive ever worked on.” Landgraf might address the subject again this week as FX arrives at the current TCA confab on Saturday at the BevHilton.

In the pilot stage for FX is spy drama “The Americans,” starring Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell as a married couple who live in the U.S. and are spying for the KGB. Pilot has already been shot for “The Americans” and the project has an excellent chance of moving forward to series.

Set to begin shooting next month in New York is “Bronx Warrants,” from creator Dean Lorey, who exec produces with Denis Leary and Jim Serpico. Comedy looks at detectives in the Gotham borough assigned to arrest those with warrants. Casting should be announced shortly.
