Dark Knights: Metal Release Party

Last night I headed out to Wondercomics in Yucaipa, CA to join them in celebrating the midnight release of Dark Knights: Metal.  For those who are unfamiliar with it, this is DC’s newest annual crossover comic book event.  Normally, I avoid midnight release parties like the plague because I hadn’t been excited for any comic book titles.  The last midnight book release I went to was for the last Harry Potter book.

What brought me out this time?  Well, while I was at San Diego Comic Con this year I happened across an image for the cover.  It contained the Bat symbol over a gear.  As hard I could try, I couldn’t make it past the crazy crowd in my wheelchair so I was unable to get into the DC booth to gain more information.

Once I got home I was hopped online and began to dig further.  I discovered that this crossover event would uncover Batman in multiple realities having donned different heroes powers.  One Batman would have the Flash’s speed, another would have Green Lantern’s ring and so on and so on.  I was hooked.  I know they say to never judge a book by it’s cover but to that I say, read comics.

Because of all of this I headed to my local comic book store and participated in the midnight release event.  It was a lot of fun to be able to hang out with all of the fans that attended and talk Batman.  I was able to catch up on a lot of the story lines that have come out in my absence.  In truth, I had stopped collecting comics awhile ago due to the constant “rebooting” that was happening in both big houses.  Instead, I had been sticking to the reading list for the Inland Empire Comic Book club.

I ended up staying at the store till after 2 a.m.  Once I got home I gently tore open the books and began reading.  Now this is the part where you would expect some sort of review.  Well, happy to disappoint, because I will not be giving anything away until the series is over.  I will say this, the last page should surprise everyone and leave them with a smile.

I want to thank Wondercomics for hosting the event.  I had a lot of fun and am really looking forward to this series.
