“Ironheart” To Launch This Fall
In a few months Tony Stark will be hanging up his Iron Man mask in the Marvel comics, with 15-year-old tech wiz Riri Williams taking his place as the star of the “Invincible Iron Man: comic line.
With that change though comes an understandable change of name. Wired has revealed that Riri will be taking on a new moniker – Ironheart. Series writer Brian Michael Bendis says the name was suggested by Marvel’s chief creative officer Joe Quesada:
“Iron Woman seemed old fashioned to some Iron Maiden looked like a legal nightmare. And Ironheart, coined by Joe Quesada, after I told him my planned story for Riri, speaks not only to the soul of the character but to the Iron Man franchise as a whole. Tony first put on the armor to save his heart. Riri puts it on for different reasons altogether but still heart-related. When people see her story, you’ll be amazed at how simple and brilliant Joe’s suggestion was.”
Tony won’t be gone from the series though. The site says that the A.I. in Riri’s suit will be based on Tony’s personality, acting as her support when she’s out and about. The Invincible Iron Man #1, which won’t change its title for now, will be out this Fall.
