The Slimmer PS4 and PS4 Pro Announced
As part of its Sony Playstation press conference today, Sony have announced a refresh of the PlayStation 4 line-up. Along with a new slimmer model of the PS4 which will become the standard moving forward, there will also be the PS4 Pro which has more processing power and is capable of 4K resolution.
Both consoles will be made HDR compatible in a firmware update next week. The slimmer PS4 will have all of the capabilities of the current console, but in a smaller box. It goes on sale on September 15th and will sell at $299.
The PS4 Pro gets hardware upgrades with doubled GPU power, AMD Polaris technology adapted for the console, boosted clock speed, and a 1Tb hard drive. The same discs and downloads will run on both models of PS4 but play in different ways.
For exisiting titles like “Uncharted 4” and “Deus Ex: Mankind Divided,” patches will be released with “over a half-dozen Sony titles” in the works and numerous third-party titles also on the way. The patches allow the PS4 Pro to make full use of the Pro’s capabilities. The PS4 Pro launches November 10th priced at $399.
