When Linux works out of the box, you don’t learn anything… «

I have fallen into the trap of complacency when it comes to Linux already, which is exactly what I was trying to avoid by switching from Windows to Linux. I’m still running Ubuntu 10.04, which works “out of the box,” but doesn’t force you to learn anything except the most minor of adjustments. With that said, it’s no wonder I’ve forgotten practically everything I’d learned about shell commands and the CLI (command line interface). It’s just so much easier to stick to the GUI (graphical user interface) when you’re trying to get things done. No one wants the hassle of learning new software everytime they try to send an email….
