“Black Ops 2” Earns $500M In One Day | News | Dark Horizons
Proving there’s a lot more money in games than films, the latest entry in Activision’s “Call of Duty” franchise – “Black Ops II” – reportedly grossed a whopping $500 million in revenue around the world in its first 24 hours of release.
That marks the largest entertainment launch of the year, the fourth year in a row a COD title has claimed that honor. It’s also more than double the $220 million first day haul of “Halo 4” the other week, though that title was limited by being exclusive to Xbox 360. ‘Black Ops 2’ is available on every gaming console.
The game reviewing industry has undergone minor controversies lately regarding questions over its editorial independence and overly generous review scores for AAA games. ‘Black Ops 2’ scored an 84/100 on Metacritic from critics, one of the lowest in the series thus far, while over 300 user votes have given it an even more damning 4.3/10.
The PS3 version of the game has also reportedly been having issues that have caused the game system to crash on users.
