Brian Michael Bendis Signs DC-Exclusive Deal
Brian Michael Bendis has written for Marvel Comics for nearly 18 years, working on titles ranging from Ultimate Spider-Man and Daredevil to Secret Invasion and Jessica Jones. However, that era is coming to an end this morning with an announcement from DC Comics.
In a brief statement on Twitter, the publisher revealed that Bendis has signed a “multifaceted, multilayered” exclusive agreement. Bendis retweeted the announcement, and later added, “This is real. I love you all. Change is good. Change is healthy. I am bursting with ideas and inspirations. Details to come! Stay tuned!
Bendis first began writing for Marvel with 2000’s Ultimate Spider-Man, collaborating with artist Mark Bagley on 111 issues, making it one of the longest partnerships in American comic book history. He also had a notable run on Daredevil, co-created Jessica Jones with Michael Gaydos, Miles Morales with Sara Pichelli and, more recently, Riri Williams with Mike Deodato, and wrote the Avengers Disassembled storyline that led to New Avengers.
Bendis currently writes Invincible Iron Man, Spider-Man, Jessica Jones and Defenders for Marvel. There’s no word yet as to when his tenure on those titles will end, or when his DC-exclusive agreement will begin.
