Details On Whedon’s “S.H.I.E.L.D.” Series

A few weeks back came word that “The Avengers” director Joss Whedon would be involved in a Marvel-related TV series for ABC. Yesterday it was confirmed what that would be – a pilot for a live-action “S.H.I.E.L.D” series.Details On Whedon's "S.H.I.E.L.D." Series

Deadline confirmed Whedon would co-write the project with his brother Jed and wife Maurissa Tancharoen (who are writers and producers on both Starz’s “Spartacus” and Whedon’s former “Dollhouse” series). All three will executive produce along with Jeffrey Bell and Jeph Loeb while Whedon could direct the pilot if his schedule permits.

The show would revolve around the secret military law enforcement agency dubbed S.H.I.E.L.D., which stands for Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistic Directorate.

Now, speaking about it last night at a presentation (via Variety), Whedon says the series is not a “spinoff” and is “largely autonomous” from “The Avengers” sequel which he’s also attached to write and direct. He himself is expected to leave the day-to-day show running to his brother and wife but is reserving the right to pop up and insert his own little touches here and there.
