NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS Sequel Coming in 2018 – And In Comics
A sequel to the 1993 stop-motion film The Nightmare Before Christmas is coming from TOKYOPOP in 2018, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Nightmare Before Christmas: Zero’s Journey will be written by TOKYOPOP founder Stuart J. Levy (under his pen name ‘DJ Milky’), with art by Studio DICE. Zero’s Journey will follow Skellington’s Dog after he gets lost in Christmas Town.
In a departure for TOKYOPOP, Zero’s Journey will be released as a full-color minsieries before its release as a graphic novel.
In 2001, creator/producer Tim Burton convinced Disney to cancel a planned CGI sequel to the cult-favorite film. A sequel of sorts did come in 2004, however, with the video game The Nightmare BEfore Christmas: Ogie’s Revenge, with input from Burton.
After a hiatus of several years, TOKYOPOP relaunched in 2016 with Disney as one of its first licensors. One of the earliest books out of this deal was a reprinting of manga-ka Jun Asaka’s The Nightmare Before Christmas adaptation.
