Ryan Reynolds Is Immortal, Will Apparently Star in Highlander « Spinoff Online – TV, Film, and Entertainment News Daily
A month after a report surfaced that Ryan Reynolds was the frontrunner to star in Highlander, The Tracking Board confirms that the once and future Deadpool apparently will pick up the sword for the Summit Entertainment remake.
Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) is directing the new take on the 1986 fantasy action film, which starred Christopher Lambert as an immortal swordsman who battles other warriors like him through the centuries — because, you know, “there can be only one.” Highlander became a full-fledged franchise, with sequels, a live-action television series, cartoons, novels and comic books.
Few details have been released about the screenplay, by Matt Holloway and Art Marcum, so it’s unknown whether Reynolds will resurrect Connor MacLeod or Duncan MacLeod (the characters played by Lambert in the films and Adrian Paul in the TV series), or whether he’ll portray another immortal.
Reynolds rebounded from 2011′s Green Lantern with a role opposite Denzel Washington in the action thriller Safe House. He’ll next be seen in Universal’s R.I.P.D., an action-comedy based on the Dark Horse comics series.
