Shots From The Studio #12

This weeks Shots from the Studio focuses on some more of my art and one of my favorite innovations, the sketch cover.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with sketch covers, several years ago comic publishers began producing special versions of certain issues with a blank white cardstock cover with only the title of the book printed on it. Sometimes it was blank on both sides and sometimes just the front. Inside would be the regular issue and cover. The original intent was fans could pick up these special issues and have their favorite artists do some custom art on the blank cover. But it has since become a specialty collector’s market all it’s own.
I love sketch covers. I think they are a lot of fun. I enjoy working on them and seeing what other artists come up with. I have a great time doing in depth, detailed personal pieces and I love the sometimes off the wall ideas that fans come up with at conventions.
Below are some of my favorites of the sketch covers I’ve done over the years. Three of them were commissions (G.I. Joe, Thors, Old Man Logan), three were personal projects (Fantastic Four, Civil War, Star Trek) and one of them (The Bounty Hunters) was for a charity auction benefitting health care workers during the Covid 19 Pandemic.

Incidentally, I have hundreds of sketch covers available in almost any genre you can imagine so if you’re interested in commissioning one hit me up.

As always thank you for indulging my ramblings and I’ll talk to you next week!
