“Star Wars” Gets New “Ahsoka,” “Lando” Series
It was Lucasfilm’s turn at the Disney investor day conference and there was more news and reveals than you could throw a lightsaber at.
Next up, two new series were announced with both taking place in around the same time period as “The Mandalorian” (several years after “Return of the Jedi”). One is “Ahsoka,” a series starring Rosario Dawson as fan favorite character Ahsoka Tano which Dawson brought into live-action form recently on “The Mandalorian”. The other is “Rangers of the New Republic” – an original series but specifics there are unknown. Both new series will be overseen by Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau.
That’s not all though. Another new series announcement was “Lando,” a series about Lando Calrissian with “Dear White People” creator Justin Simien in early development of the show.
Then there’s the new series “The Acolyte,” a female led mystery-thriller that will “take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.” That hails from “Russian Doll” creator Leslye Headland.
There’s also “Star Wars: Visions,” an original series of animated short films celebrating this universe through the lens of the world’s best Japanese anime creators with that coming in 2021.
Next comes “A Droid Story”, an adventure film with Lucasfilm Animation and Industrial Light & Magic teaming to create that. The “epic journey will introduce us to a new hero guided by R2-D2 and C-3PO”.
Finally two clips were shown with first looks at the animated “The Bad Batch” series and “Andor,” and a featurette on the Cassian Andor TV series on the way.
