“X-Men: Apocalypse” Set For 2016?
Fox has stolen a bit of thunder from Sony today with just three words – X-Men, Apocalypse, 2016.
Those words were tweeted by filmmaker Bryan Singer who is currently deep in post-production on “X-Men: Days of Future Past” due for release next Summer.
Along with a third “Wolverine” and the “X-Force” film in development, there have been hints that Singer and scribe Simon Kinberg have been considering plans for a third film with the younger X-Men cast from “First Class”. Fassbender, McAvoy, etc. are all signed for three films so, short of Days getting a disastrous reception, a third film with the younger ones seems inevitable.
So how does he top Days? By finally showcasing the most evil X-Men villain of them all – Apocalypse. In the comics the character is the first mutant on Earth, born five millennia ago and a creature that has lived in the shadows.
In an interesting twist, the popular “Age of Apocalypse” storyline dealt with an alternate timeline being created after a character went back in time and changed history – like Wolverine does in “X-Men: Days of Future Past”.
Exhibitor Relations followed Singers tweet up with a specific date for the film – May 27th 2016.
