‘X-Men’ Scribe David Hayter Boards TV Adaptation ‘ReincarNATE’ as Head Writer (Exclusive)
He will also executive produce the supernatural cop drama based on popular comic books by Michael Moreci.
Los Angeles-based Hayter will serve as head writer and executive producer of the hour long supernatural crime drama first developed by James Cooper, director of Interview with a Time Traveler and Elijah the Prophet. Cooper also wrote the ReincarNATE pilot, which is now being shopped to U.S. and other international buyers by UTA agent Larry Salz.
Based on the popular comic books by Michael Moreci and illustrator Keith Burns, ReincarNATE portrays a down-on-his-luck private eye, Nate McCoy. After being shot in the head during an investigation, McCoy finds he can interact with versions of himself from past lives, including a Wild West lawman and a sultry 1960s female contract killer.
With their help, McCoy takes on the dangerous underworld, crooked cops and scumbags, including a criminal heavyweight who may have murdered his father. “It’s dealing with past lives, and the characters of past lives,” Buck Productions’ Sean Buckley, who is executive producing along with Patrice Theroux, told The Hollywood Reporter.
Hayter is best known for penning screenplays for box-office performers like X-Men, X-Men 2,Watchmen and The Scorpion King. “It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of genre projects with bold, larger-than-life characters. I can’t wait to work with James (Cooper) on unveiling the many faces of Nate McCoy,” said writer-producer Hayter in a statement on Wednesday.
Buckley said Hayter offers an entire ReincarNATE storytelling universe to exploit. “We can explore the back story of his (McCoy’s) past lives, which opens up additional story portals, allowing us to explore amazing scripts and and scenery and character development,” he said.
Toronto-based Buckley has executive produced film and TV projects like Pretend We’re Kissingwith Zoe Kravitz, A Beginner’s Guide to Endings, with Harvey Keitel, and Defendor, starring Woody Harrelson. Buckley recently inked a deal with the U.S. cable net Reelz to co-produce four 10-part TV series in its 2017/2018 lineup as he continues to diversify from the Canadian to the U.S. market.
Hayter is repped by UTA, Principato-Young Entertainment and attorney David Feldman.
